Charles Williams and his family have been organizing outstanding hunting in Africa and shooting in Europe for over 40 years.
In 2008 Charles and his daughter Sarah created Safari Adventures Worldwide, a safari-booking agency specializing in customized photographic safaris to Africa. In 2015 Williams Fieldsports was born with the purpose of organizing highly customized big game hunting trips to Africa and bird-shooting programs in Europe (England, Scotland, Wales and Spain), Africa and Argentina. They are now offering some of the most sought after wing-shooting and African hunting opportunities available. With over 50 years of experience in the family, this team is uniquely qualified to plan your next African safari or bird shoot to Europe. The 3 principals are Charles, Karen and Sarah. Here are their stories:
Charles was raised in Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) and spent his childhood hunting and fishing in the nearby wilderness. He attended college at Capetown University in South Africa and returned to Rhodesia to join the Rhodesian Department of National Parks and Wildlife Management where he served for 13 years. He rose rapidly through the ranks, first as a ranger, senior ranger, warden and finally Senior Warden managing some of the finest National Parks in Africa.
He then went on to become Managing Director of Safari South (Botswana), Northern Air (Botswana) and Ker & Downey (Botswana) from 1974 to 1995. He was also Executive Vice President of Tanzania Game Tracker Safaris, Ker & Downey (Tanzania), Northern Air (Tanzania) from 1986 to 2008. Charles was the key figure behind the development and expansion of all company programs and operations in Botswana and Tanzania from 1974 to 2008 to create one of the largest and most successful safari operations in Africa.
During his long career in Africa, Charles focused on utilizing hunting and photographic safaris as management tools in the sustainable use of wildlife and it’s supporting habitats. He was a pioneer in promoting the engagement of local village people. Charles strongly believes that their involvement is the bedrock on which conservation should be based and that empowering local communities through education and financial incentives creates true, sustainable conservation.
When not on safari in Africa, Charles planned and hosted bird-shooting trips to Scotland, England, Spain and Africa for the past 30 years. Now that he has retired from the African operations Charles continues to organize bird-shoots in the UK, Spain, Africa and Argentina . He currently serves as Executive Vice President of the African Professional Hunters Association and is an active member of Safari Club International, Dallas Safari Club and Shikar Safari Club International. He currently resides in Boulder, Colorado with his wife, Karen, 13 year-old daughter Olivia and his 3 dogs. In his free time Charles enjoys traveling to new places, hiking and working his labrador retriever.
Sarah Fernandes was born and raised in Africa. She lived in Botswana from the age of three, where her family worked in the safari industry. She was educated in Scotland and returned to Botswana following her education to work in various luxury safari camps.
In 1996 Sarah moved to London to work in the adventure travel industry with Cazenove and Loyd and the Ultimate Travel Company specializing in tailor-made trips to Africa. That experience was invaluable, but she missed Africa so in 2003 she moved back to Africa, to manage Campi Ya Kanzi safari in the Chyulu Hills of Kenya.
In 2005 Sarah moved to Nunyuki, Kenya, located on the side of Mount Kenya where she and her now husband Andrew and daughter Georgiana reside today. In 2008 Sarah and her father Charles formed Safari Adventures Worldwide in order to utilize their extensive knowledge of the safari industry. Sarah visits operators throughout East and Southern African on a continual basis to keep abreast of the best offerings in the industry. She organizes African safaris customized to each client’s particular interests.
Sarah has been immersed in the Safari industry all her life and continues to impart that passion through the wonderful experiences she organizes for her clients. In her free time Sarah loves to travel, hike, ski and spend time with her family and dogs.
Karen was born and raised in California. She holds a Bachelors of Science degree in Finance, Masters of Science in Business and Masters in Computer Science and received her CPA (Certified Public Accounting) certificate from the State Board of Public Accounting in Texas in 1985.
